What’s a LifeApp Community Project?

It’s a community of people coming together and giving of themselves for the benefit of an other. Whether the other is an individual, group, or family, it all starts when someone becomes aware of an overwhelming need that only a community of loving people coming together could serve. Facilitated by LifeApp, these Community Projects provide a platform and an opportunity for a community of people to shower love on one particular individual, group, or family who’s need is greater than their own ability or resources can solve.

Sydney Stenberg: Diagnosed at age 15, Sydney has been fighting an inoperable form of clival chordoma for 10 years. Supporting Sydney, her family have left less urgent needs and home repairs undone. The extensive home repairs required have created an insurmountable challenge for this family. Until someone in the community highlighted the need and over 80 companies, 200 volunteers, and 130 donors showed up to Shower Sydney With Love.

Some of Our Past Projects…

Jacqueline & Kevin Bay: Healthy one moment and paralyzed the next. As a result of a freak hockey accident Kevin experienced several strokes over a short period of time, leaving him paralyzed and struggling to speak. Furthermore their home, as it was built, would not allow them to bring Kevin home to care for him. That’s when a community of loving friends and strangers came together to give a helping hand.

Rachelle Seidel: As a mom raising three kids with a complex blend of special needs and mental health struggles, life was already challenging. But when COVID removed much of the family’s support system, the increased stress took its toll and lead to a very unhealthy living environment for her family. That’s when a local citizen became aware of the need and shared it with the LifeApp community.

Roy & Tamaka Fisher: Taking care of aging parents is honourable. But when they gave their master bedroom to her parents and Tamaka stopped working to care for her Dad as he battled cancer, their communal living arrangement strained both mental health and marriage. When a friend became aware of their situation, the wheels were set in motion to change their situation and give them a helping hand.

Grace Ng: Life has been a struggle for Grace, she has been battling cancer and her husband was killed by a work related accident two years earlier. The home needed restorations, but with the loss of her husband and her illness, life was just too overwhelming for the mother of two. Together with the Home Team, the LifeApp community brought together both donors and over 50 volunteers.

See a Need, Gather a Community,
and Then Do Something

That’s What LifeApp Community Projects Are All About

Aware of a Need:

It all starts when someone becomes aware of a need in their community. Whether it’s an individual, group, or family in need; it’s the kind of need that they are unable take care of without the help of a community of people willing to give of themselves in order to meet that need.

Gather a Community:

In a recent study conducted by both Fraser and Coastal health authorities, it was noted that 43% of those living in Greater Vancouver experience a low or very low sense of community belonging. This lack of social connectedness is directly linked to poor mental, social, and physical well-being. Live Love Well Projects are designed to not only serve the needs of others, but to do so in community. They provide a low risk opportunity for connection. Whether one is an introvert or extrovert, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, it is a space where a person can rub shoulders, get to know, and increase ones sense of community belonging. This is especially beneficial to those who may struggle to meet new people, be new to the region, or simply have few opportunities to share space with others.

Do Something:

Many of us have grown up with the idea that love just is. That it happens when it happens. That somehow our capacity, motivation, abilities, and skills to live love well, either are or aren’t. But this is simply not true. Our lack of relational intelligence or the motivation to live love well is something we learn to mold and shape. It’s a muscle we develop and maintain. Our mandate as an organization is to empower more people to live love well, and while we do all we can to inspire and equip participants with opportunities to learn and grow, learning really doesn’t take place until we actually do something. Live Love Well Projects are an organized opportunity to not just talk about love, but to actually put it into action together as a community.
